The customer complaint was that the vehicle was running rough after an engine replacement.

The vehicle was still on the hoist after the replacement engine had been fitted and had not yet been road tested. The workshop advised the original engine had cracked a piston, so the owner supplied another D40 as a donor vehicle. On start-up, the engine had an extended crank time, a knocking noise when starting and heavy black smoke.
